On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with generous, ripe black raspberry fruit, lavender, and forest floor. Dark and brooding, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino from Tenuta La Fuga wafts up with a blend of crushed rocks and savory herbs giving way to dried black cherries. Cool-toned and pliant, it washes across the palate with ripe wild berry fruits underscored by salty minerals tones and brisk acids. This leaves a staining of primary concentration and dusty tannins, as a hint of salted licorice slowly fades. I revisited the 2018 over the course of three days and it only gained in depth and concentration over time without losing its fresh persona. Forget this in the cellar to reap its full rewards.
